Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
Some of the super-lousy chess websites driving me crazy. For example, the dresden2008.com have everything, except the schedule of the regular events. At least, I couldn’t find it so far, if it is there, it is well hidden.
Anyone could help please.
In this site you can see all the games, live, round per round:

I just have one question: when I look at the teams participating, and at the nations, there is one called “Jersey (JCI)”. What nation is this? I had never heard of a nation called Jersey.

Look at Georg Meier (Ger II; ELO 2558):
He beat Cheparinov
and drew Carlsen!
okay
Found the info on Jersey…it is listed as a Briish Dependency…

I could not agree more. I cannot find it either. I know there is a 3rd round today. I have to assume after every 3 rounds there might be a rest day, but who knows?

I have no trouble navigating the Dresden site… I don’t know what your problem is. The schedule for “side events” is here: http://www.dresden2008.de/site/en/tournaments/main.htm

Discuss with whom? Among ourselves? We do it every day and night thanks to you.
Hi Susan (or anyone else with this possible info.)
I am wondering if there exists a book (biography) on you (in English ;] ), with a reading level suitable for 6-14 years old since my daughter needs to read a biography for school this month.
We have all the books available on your website, Breaking Through, World Champion,…
Thank you!!!
En Passant

So, when are the games today?
By the way, the German website stinks. It gave a tricky good impression first day, then as usual, took us on a ride.
Same like with Fritz engines.
Mumbo-Jumbo website. Collecting hits only.
Wrong results in official results also. They can’t up correctly the individual results.
These are not the Germans I knew. Probably working with cheap russian laborers.
Im the only one that can only see round 2 games where Im supposed to see round 3??
Вы идиот! Мы более франтовская и более трудная деятельность чем немцы любой день.
‘Im the only one that can only see round 2 games where Im supposed to see round 3??’
You are not. I too cannot see anything game on round three.
Who cares about the games? Lets meet on ICC and play for free!!
The 3rd Round of Chess Olympiad starts today at 15-00 CET.
The most interesting matches are:
Russia vs. Cuba (Kramnik – Dominguez on first board)
Georgia vs. Ukraine (Jobava – Ivanchuk on first board)

Unless I’m missing something the only source for the games is the live coverage page. Their links to the individual PGN files don’t work, although its easy enough to work out what they are using for the live coverage. Its unclear if they’re going to produce a final confirmed bulletin or not.
No live games today?
I guess they don’t work on weekends. Oh well, we’ll come back for round 5 on monday.
Oh, they DO work on weekends (at least on Saturdays)!!!
YEs, maybe part-time…. or they the guys doing the website thought that round today was also delayed 🙂
Hi Susan,
warm welcome to Dresden.
Well, as beeing participating live, please be so kind to put a note on your web site regarding “Tadaah TV”, as that channel might be unavailable or “a closed user group”:
I and some others recently tried to set up “new user” to get access to Olympiad TV, but the only message we get is:
“user already known”
That means it seems, nobody is currently able to create a new user for that Channel.
Could you confirm that this Channel is not available (anymore) or might be a fake?
As you published the press release from 11/08/2008 that it is available FOR ALL, plase be so kind to update your blog regarding Olympiad TV.
Many thanks in the name of a lot of chess pupils.
Be patient. I’m sure that the PGN games download link will soon be working.
In the meantime..
I saved off the games individually from their Java player and combined them into one PGN file.
Round 1: here
Round 2: here
You’re late. TWIC got them already.
WHERE ARE THE LIVE GAMES???????????????????????????
I BET ALOT OF MONEY ON SOME OPENINGS.
What are many of you cluttering about?? And bragging about collected games?? Dresden website has full download of round one games and round two games in one file in pgn format.
THE ASDRALCES BLOGGER WAS CORRECT. THE GERMANS STARTED RELAYING ONE HOUR LATE, LIKE ROBOTS WOULD DO, NOT HUMANS. HAPPY WATCHING!
Just wanted to let you know about the state of chess in Daytona Beach Florida. It stinks! Run by an uncooperative old man who complained about closing the club because no one was interested in chess anymore. When another young man disagreed he was gruff. He was rude and inconsiserate with me such that I thanked him for his time and decided to leave and NOT participate.
Thank you Susan for your books and website for renewing my interest in Chess these past 2 years.
The germans indeed posted round one and two games. There are moves in the games, and names of players, but no results, except if draws. Hahahahahaha. Scandalous.
Jersey is one of three Channel Islands off the northwestern French coast. The other two are Guernsey and Sark. They were part of the Anglo-Norman Empire about eight centuries back.
When England lost its possessions in france, the islands recognized the English King (or Queen) as their sovereign. They have their own governors and their own legislatures, though they follow the English common law in most instances. They speak English for the most part; French is also spoken a lot). The English monarch is recognized by the title “Duke (or Duchess) of Normandy,” leader of the Norman Conquest in 1066.
Jersey’s most famous native was actress Lillie Langtry, a stage star of the late 1800s better known for her beauty and her numerous boyfriends, including the future King Edward VII.
I cannot get the live games to work from the official website. I don’t know whether it’s a Java problem or not, but I can’t see any games }:-( Nor can I see any video.
TWIC has one board playing. Comments with updates are at Chessgames.com. Otherwise, no live games for me…
The PGN files of the first two rounds have loads of games without final decisions, even though we know the results of all the games. What’s that about?
I thought Topalov was sitting this one out…Is he really playing?
Susan, did you see how Nakamura LOST
to ELO 2300 today?Haha, almost like Kramnik in game vs Fritz.
The joke is on you. If you would have looked at the end position you would notice that the game score is false. Or maybe you did look at it, but you are to dumb to see that black is winning.
Anyway, Nakamura WON.
Click on “nations”, and you can watch live…
okay
Game of the day:
Van Wely-Radjabov 1:0!
wild and heavy
okay
‘you are to dumb to see that black is winning.’
You’re a sick fagget.
It takes one to know one 😉
“You’re a sick fagget.”
Where is he!
Where is he!!!??!!!!
I want to meet him!!!
😉
