I’m sorry to hear about Smyslov. He was a superb player – very smooth and calm. Great in the endgame.
R.I.P. Valery. He was the only living champion (besides Kasimdzhanov) who missed in Zurich last year. But somebody prayed for him there…
Now he is in heaven and plays another re-match with Botwinnik. And of course he is strengthening the angels choir with his art of singing!
okay
Bye Vassili, you know who I meant.
Smyslov is dead? So sad to hear that.
His was the one name I always missed when I first learnt to recite the names of Chess World Champions through history. Perhaps because he held the title only briefly, but he is definitely a fine player. He also played Kasparov (circa 1983??) in the final of the candidates match to choose Karpov’s challenger.
Rest in Peace Mr Smyslov!!
Old Grandmasters never die…. they simply fade away.
