GM Eugene Perelshteyn just captured the first ever SPICE Cup Invitational, followed by GM Hernandez. The Tal Memorial is at round 7 with Kramnik way out in front of the super field. There is a big state championship in Houston and the National Youth Action in San Louis.

Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
I don’t know what the big deal is about the dress code. They all looked like they were dressed appropriately to me. On that subject, can someone buy Bill G. a new pair of glasses? If he is the face of chess in the U.S., it screams nerd, nerd, nerd.
Hah! Hah! Nerd!

There was a five round swiss side event on the opening weekend – SPICE Cup Open. It had 22 players of a wide range of ages. Chase Watters, Tech grad student, won the event with a full house. Paul Truong was the house player (and also scored a full house but took no prizes which shows Paul’s generousity). All the results are posted on the USCF tournament website. Many of the games from rounds four and five were broadcast on MonRoi. Those games can be found on the MonRoi site.
Sincerely,
Dr. Karlsson
