Hi, Susan! Thanks for the puzzle. I did not set up a position over a real board to find 1.Nb3+ Ka4 2.Rb4+ Ka3, followed by discoverd check.

This is just another version of an earlier problem on this site – 1.Nb3+ Ka4 2.Rb4+ Ka3 3.Rb5+! Rxc5 (3…Ka4 4.Ra5#) 4.Nxc5! and 5.Rb3#. Black’s pieces are “un-optimized” (e.g. the stupid knight on g1) so that they are both helpless against Rb3# and can’t even give check.
1. Nb3+ Ka4
2. Rb4#
jan
Pretty simple:
1. Nb3 Ka4
2. Rb4 Ka3
3. Rb5
The hardest move for me to find, but mostly because it depends on my ability to actually see the effect of the knight on the next move:
3. …..Rc5 (Ka4 4.Ra5#)
4. Nc5 and there is no move that prevents or delays Rb3#.
1. Nb3+ Ka4
2. Rb4+ Ka3
3. Rb5+ Rc5:
4. Nc5: 1-0
Rb3X next move; nothing Black can do to affect it.
Looks like a mate-in-four:
1. Nb3+ Ka4
2. Rb4+ Ka3
3. Rb5+ Ka4
4. Ra5#
1.Nb2+ Ka4
2.Rb4+ Ka3
3.Rb5+ Rcxc5
4.Nxc5
– WHITE WON
p/s : as the surrender of black and white will to economize in Rb3#and black can not prevent
Nb3+ – Ka4, Rb4+ – Ka3, Rb5+ – Rxc5 (Ka4, Ra5++), Nxc5 and conveniently black can do nothing againt Rb3++.
Since black has so much extra material mate is imperative here. Rb5 Nb3 and Ra4 would do the trick but only one of those comes with a check and thus black get a tempo to play something like Ra8.
Rb5+ Ka4 Nb3 Ra8
Bb4+ Ka4 also seems problematic since the knight can be captured by the rook while trying to deliver mate.
Rb3 Rxc5
Nb3+ Ka4 Rb4+ Ka3 Rb5+ Ka4 Ra5#
N to b3 Chk
I think that black is done.
I almost missed it because one of the moves is a not check, but it sets up an unstoppable mate.
Man, this is a really unrealistic position. Anyhow, mate in 4.
1.Nb3+ Ka4
2.Rb4+ ka3+
3.Rb5+ Ka4
4.Ra5#
