The 4th Rethymno International Chess Tournament 2012 was organized by the Municipality of Rethymno and Rethymno Chess Club on 7-14th July. 153 players competed in the 9-round Swiss event.

Armenian Grandmaster and top seed in the tournament Gabriel Sargissian emerged winner after collecting 7.5 points and leaving the group of players half a point behind. In 2010 Sargissian shared the first place in Rethymno Open.

Indian IM Akshayraj Kore performed splendidly to finish 2nd on tie-break and take a GM norm with the elo performance of 2660! Stany G A, also from India, claimed the IM norm.

Most of the players will continue the Cretan chess tour in the 5th Paleochora International Tournament 2012.
