COLOGNE — Sandrine Bonnaire (“Intimate Strangers”) will star alongside Swiss-German actor Bruno Ganz (“Downfall”) in scribe Caroline Bottaro’s helming debut.
In the French-German co-production “Joueuse” (The Chess Player), Bonnaire plays a hotel chambermaid who develops an obsession for chess. Bottaro penned drama “C’est la vie,” which also featured Bonnaire.
Pic, which is being produced by Paris-based Mon Voisin Production and German unit Blueprint Film, has received some $700,000 in production aid from the German-French Film Funding Commission.

Sandrine is a fantastic actress.
I would like to vote for Susan for the lead role. She may not be a fantastic actress but she’s a fantastic chess player and perfect for the role.
I am looking forward to this. I loved Bruno Ganz ever since I saw him in “Wings of Desire” and Sandrine Bonnaire since I saw her in “Monsieur Hire”.
