Even Gunina is stronger than Kosteniuk now. How sad to see the self-proclaimed “the only chess queen” is not even the top 2 in her own country. Maybe she’ll defect to Switzerland or the US to satisfy her ego.
Kosteniuk should make up her mind of what to do with her life. She wants to be everything and her chess suffers greatly. How the mighty has fallen. She should think hard and clear of her choices.
How is it possible that while she was playing, posts were made from her sites? Did she really go out to the hall way to post things in the middle of the game?
Well, it is not surprising at all that Kosteniuk lost to Zhao Xue. Zhao Xue is a very strong grandmaster and could defeat any female grandmaster. It is not fair to say “Even Gunina is stronger than Kosteniuk now” just based on this one single round. Gunina won this round because her opponent made a HUGE blunder at the last move.
The Koseniuk-bashing here is not at all unexpected.
How tiresome: get a life.
I’m Georgian and I’ll never forgive Kosteniuk’s arrogance for declaring that she’s the greatest female player ever and that she’s the only chess queen. What about Gaprindashvili and Chiburdanidze. She doesn’t hold a candle to these Georgian legends. She brought the criticism on herself for having no class whatsoever. She’s #3 in Russia, far below the Kosintseva sisters. This proves how absurd her statement is. I can understand if she says she’s the reigning chess queen. But to say she’s the only chess queen in chess is stupid and arrogant.
Did Kosteniuk really declare herself the greatest female player ever? Has she never heard of Judith Polgar??
That’s sad. Nice girl but I think she’s really getting bad advise from her management team, just like Topalov.
But I did see in various interviews which she said she’s the only Chess Queen. She (or her management team) even put that on her website.
The problem is she has at least 12 other women who are higher rated. Out of the 12 women’s world champions, she’s probably #10 or #11 in chess accomplishment.
Even on board 3, her teammates have to carry her. She has by far the worst performance on the Russian A team.
i am from nepal i am surprised to see these comments which are actually targeting a single person. Sad. I wonder if carlsen is being criticised for losing. By the way thanks for telling me alexandra kosteniuk has a blog. By the way since i am a technology graduate let me tell you if a particular computer time is different posts can appear with different times. Funny comment. I thought chess players were all fun. But some criticism. What i am surprised is i thought judith polgar was a gracious lady. Not nice to allow such things on ones site.
I’m getting really tired of reading all the criticism of Alexandra Kosteniuk, especially since they repeat distortions and just go along with the crowd, without checking their facts. Fact is that Ms. Kosteniuk was not the one who proclaimed herself Chess Queen. It took a journalist to do that. That she or her managers decided to capitalize on that is hardly surprising. Once everyone starts calling you the Chess Queen, what are you supposed to do? Tell everyone that they are making a mistake, I’m not the Chess Queen?
Also, for those who criticize Ms. Kosteniuk’s ego, consider the graciousness and sportmanship that it took for her to voluntarily step down during the current Olympiad to play 3rd board behind the Kosintseva sisters.
I’m a fan of the whole Russian womens team. I think they are just all great. I also love the US Womens team, and in my next life I can only hope that I have the dream name for a woman chess player: Irina Krush.

This is for Lucy Marie. Sorry but your argument doesn’t hold water. No one says she shouldn’t be called the chess queen. She earned that title as the champion. The problem is in she said in various interviews (as well as on her website – it was recently removed after receiving a lot of criticism) that she’s the ONLY chess queen and she’ll forever be the only chess queen. Language problem? No. This is not the first time she (her management) pull a stunt like this. Her management team has deceived (to put it mildly) the chess fans for too long. They have no regards or respect toward other women players, especially Chiburdanidze and Gaprindashvili. Her management team is much hated like Danailov. You can defend her all you want but you can’t change the facts. Many professional players have a problem with her management too. My beef is how she treats my Georgian heroes.
I would also like to respond to the statement by one of the anonymous persons who said “Kosteniuk should make up her mind of what to do with her life. She wants to be everything…”. In case you hadn’t noticed, women of today don’t just want to stay at home and have babies. But many of them, justifiably, want to be mothers AND to have a life doing what they are talented at doing. That is a hard juggling act, and it takes an incredible amount of energy. But critizing them for doing just that, and telling them they have to make a choice to do only one thing is VERY, VERY SMALL MINDED.
Tell me, do you think that Judit Polgar should also “make up her mind of what to do with her life”?
Lucymarie
Dear Georgian Rulez,
Thank you for your response to my contribution. I didn’t see the piece on Ms. Kosteniuk’s website before it was pulled, so I cannot comment on it. But I have to believe that Alexandra Kosteniuk personally has a very healthy respect for Maia Chiburdanidze, having been beaten by her on more than a few occasions, like at the Dresden Olympiad in 2008, but on other occasions as well.

i have to add i came to know about alexandra kosteniuks blog and i just saw that she praises lot of georgian chess stars in her posts she has also put many games by all players including judith polgar and she has praised good chess. This is very sad to see this stuff here. Would all the georgian players and russian players and others – including kosintseva sisters – who have been praised on her blog speak up? If kosteniuk was arrogant why would she praise others chess including judith polgar? She is a wonderful woman who has shown the world what it is to rise to the top and also look after your home. She is a true gracious woman. Maybe the name of this blog should be changed to kosteniuk bashing blog – and thats another kind of fan for her.
by the way we are in a different era of chess where even carlsen can lose – kosteniuk has done more for the game than many other champions – apart from just worrying about her own tournaments she has also promoted the game for girls – this is the marketing era – maybe old fashioned people cannot understand the dynamics of a progressive capitalist america. Very amusing that of all the hundreds of players at the olympiad one person should be criticised on a blog.
hey folks why dont we run a poll here on whether alexandra kosteniuk is the chess queen or not ? I like the stuff on her various sites though but i also like several other women chess players how does it matter
any expert around on international copyright laws and if kosteniuk has copyright on chess queen well great – sorry girls you all were dozing get moving
any expert around on international copyright laws and if kosteniuk has copyright on chess queen well great – sorry girls you all were dozing get moving
why should anyone be worried about anyones marketing team – they are doing their job – we even have spin doctors for american presidential campaign – jolly good if kosteniuks marketing team has come up with a nice chess queen idea – congratulations to them
i think alexandra kosteniuk is the chess queen – marketing or no marketing – and i am a great fan. Who cares if someone with no credentials wants to criticise her – jealousy i suppose.
very boring discussion
even queen elizabeth is criticised heh heh good going chess queen kosteniuk
I think chess queen alexandra kosteniuk is a very nice chess player and in all the videos i have seen of her she comes across as an affable person too. as a chess player i don’t understand what problem anyone else has with her marketing. all the other women chess players can also go on and have their own marketing. who stops them?
Hello all, i am new to this website but is this some kind of discussion forum here. I am new to chess also. A retired teacher from India and am one of the new fans here at Khanty-Mansiysk. Well I met her. She shook hands and took the time to autograph whatever I said… And, no she didn’t insist on anything like Chess Queen and just signed Kosteniuk. I asked her to write Chess Queen for me. She’s cool and well beautiful if I can add.
heh heh lot of comments here. some fun going on. well i am also prompted to write. why didn’t any other women come up with the idea of taking a copyright on chess queen? so if Kosteniuk grabs it so be it. we still have plenty to take left – chess woman, chess nanny, chess aunt, chess girl, chess wife… he he
As a fan I like to remember this pretty alexandra kosteniuk as the chess queen. no issues.
maybe some other women in chess can copyright chess keen – sounds nice though it has the K for Kosteniuk
I don’t like Kosteniuk. She’s a phony. She’s supporting Kirsan because it benefits her personally. She doesn’t care about other women or her colleagues.
It’s pathetic that the same person posted like 10 times to pretend that Kosteniuk has a lot of supporters for her ego. Pathetic!
what fun
How can you allege that for sure if you are an anonymous commentator or have you hacked into the administrative account of this blog?
