The Opening Ceremony of the Superfinals of 71st Russian Men’s Chess Championship and 68th Russian Women’s Chess Championship took place on August 24th in the Magnezit Palace of Culture in Satka, Chelyabinsk Region.

Boris Dubrovsky, Governor of the Chelyabinsk Region, Mark Glukhovsky, Executive Direcor of the Russian Chess Federation, and Maria Morozova, Director General of Elena and Gennady Timchenko Charitable Foundation, delivered speeches at the Opening Chess Ceremony.

Chief arbiter IA Vladimir Staratorzhskiy held the drawing of lots. The players got the following starting numbers:

The 68th Russian Women’s Championship Superfinal is taking place in Satka from 25th August to the 5th September 2018. The event is a 12-player round-robin, where the winner receives 500,000 roubles (~$7,5000) and a Renault Kaptur car. The top three finishers qualify automatically for next year’s Superfinal. The time control is 90 minutes for 40 moves then 30 minutes to the end of the game, with a 30-second increment from move 1. No draw offers are allowed before move 40. A tie for first place is split by two 15+10 rapid games and, if the score is still tied, a 5 vs. 4 Armageddon game, where Black wins if the game ends in a draw.
