Russian Championship Superfinal
Peter Svidler and Tatiana Kosintseva top-seeded

The Superfinals of the men and women Russian Championship are taking place on 19-30th December at the Big Hall of the Central Chess Club in Moscow. Both events are 10-player round robin tournaments, with prize funds of 66000 EUR + 27000 EUR respectively.

Five-time Russian champion Peter Svidler (2754) is defending the last-years title, won after a tense tiebreak match with Dmitry Jakovenko and Evgeny Alekseev. Jakovenko (2736) and Alekseev (2715) are also qualified to play, as well as Alexander Grischuk (2736) who had the highest rating on July elo list.

The reigning European Champion Evgeny Tomashevsky (2708), Alexander Riazantsev (2661), Denis Khismatullin (2643), Nikita Vitiugov (2694), Artyom Timofeev (2651) and 16-years old Sanan Sjugirov (2612) qualified from the 62nd Russian Higher League.

The 59th Women Championship will feature GM Tatiana Kosintseva (2522), IM Nadezhda Kosintseva (2518), WGM Natalia Pogonina (2501), IM Marina Romanko (2449), WGM Anastasia Bodnaruk (2372), WFM Valentina Gunina (2446), IM Elena Zaiatz (2390), WGM Tatiana Stepovaia (2384), WGM Maria Manakova (SRB 2344), who earlier this year played in Serbian championship, and IM Alisa Galliamova (2460), returning after a two-year hiatus.
