Yet to get recognition from the sports ministry, the Chess Association of India (CIA), a breakaway body of the All India Chess Federation (AICF) formed last year, has gone ahead and announced its calendar for 2010, which includes a Rs25-lakh tournament later this year.
Its schedule for Category A will get underway in March in Chattisgarh and will end in Kozhikode in August. In September, the CIA has a National B event in Saharanpur (prize money Rs 10 lakh) and National ‘A’ knockout tourney in October-November in Delhi with a purse of Rs 15 lakh.
There are also a few more under-20 events for boys and girls in Rajasthan in October, a national women’s meet in Kerala in November and national youth tournament for different age groups in Goa in January next year.

The same should happen in the US.
Why isn’t it called the CAI? CIA sounds so scary!
