(Dan is on my right in the white shirt at the Susan Polgar National Open for Girls and Boys)
I just received news of the unexpected passing of a good friend in chess, Mr. Dan DeLeon, of Corpus Christi, TX. Dan just turned 51. He did a lot for chess for kids in South Texas, especially in the Corpus Christi – Brownsville area.
He was responsible in organizing many wonderful events for kids, including the Susan Polgar National Open for Girls and Boys in Corpus Christi and Brownsville, TX.
RIP Dan! Thank you for your friendship and for everything you did for kids in chess. You’ll be missed by the chess community! He’s survived by his wife and two young boys.
A Memorial Fund has been set up to help the his two young sons. Checks can be mail to:
Chris DeLeon
PO Box 895
Gregory, Texas 78359
or via Pay Pal through the Susan Polgar Foundation http://www.susanpolgar.com/susan-polgar-foundation-donate.html for the Dan DeLeon Memorial Fund. Thank you!
