Quang Liem and Bao Tram top national premier chess championship

Nhan Dan – Grand master Le Quang Liem from Ho Chi Minh City surpassed Hanoi’s Nguyen Anh Dung in the final to snatch the gold in the men’s event at the 2010 National Premier Chess Championship which wrapped up in Ho Chi Minh City on April 3.

Despite having been held drawn by Dung in the final game, Quang Liem still won the final victory thanks to his win over Dung in the first game held on April 2. Anh Dung won the silver.

Dao Thien Hai withdrew from the match competing for the third prize due to sickness. Thus, the bronze in the men’s event went to Nguyen Hoa.

Meanwhile, in the final of the event for women, Bao Tram from Thua Thien – Hue bagged the championship title as she beat Thao Nguyen from Can Tho after the thrilling tie-break.

The 2010 National Premier Chess Championship, held from March 26 to April 3 is the year’s most important individual event of the Vietnamese chess. It is considered a good opportunity for the masters in preparation for domestic and international grand events.
