1. e7(+Q ck) black resigns 🙂 …and thank you so much for being in St. Louis! WmC Tom
1. Qg7+!!.Qxg7.2.Rxg7!!
A>2……d2.3. Rb7!!
A1>3….d1=Q.4.Rb8+.Rd8.5.Rxd8+.Be8.6.Rxe8#!
A2>3….Kg8.4.Rb8+.Be8.5.Rxe8#!
A3>3…Be8.4.Rb8!.any move.5.Rxe8#!
Hence 3…any move.4.Rb8 and mates!
B>2….Be8.3.Re7!.Bc6.4.Rc7!
B1>4….Be8.5.Rc8! Any move.6.Rxe8#and Rc8+ and mates!
B2>4…Bb7.5.Rxb7. And 6.Rb8#!
B3>4…Bd7.5.Rxd7. And 6.Rd8#!
B4>4… Any other.5.Rc8 and mates!
C>2…Bd7.3.Rxd7. And 4.Rd8#
D>2…Bc6.3.Rxc7! and mates
E>2…Ba6.3.Ra/d7 and mates!
F>2….Any other 3.Rc7! And mates!
1Qg7 Qg7 2Rg7 followed by Rb7 to give back rank mate
Here I instantly wanted to deflect black queen with my pawn, but this was wrong: 1. e7? Qf7! 2. Qg7+ (e8=Q+?? Bxe8) Qxg7 3. Rxg7 (hxg7+ Kg8) Be8! preventing Rf7 and white is stuck and looses.
Now I recognize, e6 and h6 are “2 teeth in a mouth” keeping the black king trapped on the backrank. Therefore the rook is the strong piece that must advance as quick as possible and do something spectacular from 7th rank.
Attack bishop with rook is the receipt here!
1. Qg7+ Qxg7
2. Rxg7
A)
2. … c2/d2
3. Rb7! c1=Q/d1=Q (Be8 Rb8 Kg8 Rxe8#)
4. Rb8+ mating in a couple of moves.
B)
2. … Be8
3. Re7! Bc6 (Kg8 Rxe8#. Bb5 Rb7 etc.)
4. Rc7! again it is mate in a couple of moves.
Pe7
Very instructive puzzle with a theme that is easy to learn something from.
It seems to be mate in 6.
The longest lasting lines could be:
1. Qg7+ Qxg7
2. Rxg7 Be8
3. Re7 Bc6
4. Rc7 Bd7 (Bb7 Rxb7 any Rb8#)
5. Rxd7 (or exd7 Kg8 d8=R#) Kg8 or any
6. Rd8#
2. … c2
3. Rb7 c1=Q
4. Rb8+ Qc8
5. Rxc8+ Be8
6. Rxe8#
The point is that even if king moves to g8, he gets no time to reach f8.
1.Qg7+ Qxg7
2.Rxg7 Be8
3.Re7 Bb5
4.Rb7 Be8
5.Rb8 Kg8
6.Rxe8# pawn moves offer no help to black at any stage.
1.Qg7+ Qxg7
2.Rxg7 Be8
3.Re7 Bb5
4.Rb7 Be8
5.Rb8 Kg8
6.Rxe8# pawn moves offer no help to black at any stage.
