1. – , Ra8!! 2. Qg1, Rxa1 3. Rxa1, Rxe7 and black has won a knight.
4. Ra8+ is met with 4. – , Re8 (black rook is defended by bishop on c6).
1 … Ra8
1…Ra8 and White looses at least one piece for nothing.
If,
2.RxQ RXR+ 3.Qg1 RxQ 4.KxR RxN at e7, and Black is one Bishop ahead.
If,
2.Qg1 RxR 3.RxR RxN is similar.
4.Ra8+ can be met by 4…Re8-+
Ra8
Ra8
1. … Ra8
and white suddenly is a rook down…
greets, jan
First I saw no alternative however to:
1. Qe5 Nxc6
2. bxc6 etc.
with white slightly better, it has to be something else!
Observation: As it is, not even Ne7 is hangig, but it could be with Rd8 in a different position.
White’s king position is also likely to mean something.
So for the lack of alternatives. I find:
1. Ra8! Rxb2
2. Ra1+ Qg1
3. Rxg1+ Kxg1
4. Rxe7
is up with a piece after exchange of Q+R.
Or even worse for white is:
1. … Rxa8
2. Qxb1+ Qg1
3. Qxg1+ Kxg1
4. Rxa8 Nd5
is up with rook after exchange of Q+R.
1. Ra8 must certainly be winning.
A variation that I forgot to mention:
1. Ra8! Qg1
2. Rxa1 Rxb7 (Rxa1 Rxe7)
3. Rxg7 Kxg7
4. Rxe7
is also up with a piece.
Ra8 should win a piece at least
1. Ra8 Rxb2
2. Rxa1+ Qg1
3. Rxg1+ Kxg1
4. Nxe7 1-0 (Piece up)
1. Ra8 Rxa8
2. Qxb1+ Qg1
3. Qxg1+ Kxg1
4. Rxa8 1-0 (Rook up)
More variations:
1. Ra8! Nxc6 (interesting try)
2. Rxa1 Rg1
3. bxc6 Qxc6
4. Rf8 (not Rea8 I guess) h3
5. Rxg1 Kxg1
6. Qxb3
is up with a rook.
Only variation keeping queens on board.
Once again. There are 2 ways to defend against White’s threat to capture Black’s Q at b2. Direct and Indirect defense.
The indirect defense of the Black Q with 1…Ra8!
1. … Ra8
2. Rxa8 Qxb1+
3. Qg1 Qxg1+
4. Kxg1 Rxa8 (up a rook)
2. Rxb2 Rxa1+
3. Qg1 Rxg1+
4. Kxg1 Rxe7 (up a knight)
