You can’t just claim 1.g6 is sound and that’s it. In fact, it looks pretty bad for white after 1…fxg6, as pointed out by several people already. So there’s no need to throw up a move with nothing to back it. This is chess, not an editorial.
How about 1.Rd5?
then 1…ed5 2. Qh6, gh6 3. gh6 and checkmate.
or 1.Rd5, ed5 2. Qh6, f6 3. gf6 and White crashes through on g7. For example, 3…Bf6 4.Rg7+ and mate.

… Black has 3…Qa1+ with an extra rook and a shaky White king in the crosshairs.
