May I do a bit of advertising?
If you want to visit Denmark and play in a strong international tournament, Politiken is the one for you!
The organisers have a wealth of experience and do their job splendidly and professionally. The playing venue is excellent; it is the Konventum in the picturesque seaside town of Helsingør. (It is worth booking a room at the playing venue too.)
I played my first Politiken back in the summer. It was a great experience. It was lovely to rub shoulders with such famous players as Peter Svidler (who was there to play an exhibition match against our own Peter Heine Nielsen), the tournament winner Pavel Eljanov and the legendary Hungarian Lajos Portisch – the latter I had a couple of drinks with and some chats about his career and meetings with eg. Bobby Fischer down in the Konventum bar! (Portisch was a real crowd pleaser; he had lots of time to pose for photos, sign autographs and talk with fans.)
Beautiful surroundings, great food, excellent organisation, lots of titled and high rated ELO players….Need I say more! :o)
