Judit Polgar has been the highest rated woman for over 20 years and remains in the world’s top 100 while combining chess activity with being the mother of two children.

No female player has come remotely close to challenging her. Humpy Koneru of India is second in the women’s list on 2600 and the sixteen year old Chinese prodigy Hou Yifan is third on 2577, although her progress has slowed recently.
Polgar is one of three sisters who were taught chess by their father Laszlo and all became immensely strong players. Laszlo Polgar’s guiding principle was not to let his girls play other girls. In his opinion women’s chess development was hindered by segregation.
FIDE run a world championship for women but Polgar does not bother with it and they organise a Grand Prix which she does not attend and indeed, why should she bother? In her most recent outing she crushed Czech GM David Navara in a Rapid match held at Prague. A chastened Navara responded by winning his national championship with 8.5/9 and, as reported on Saturday, catapulted himself into the world’s top 20, which is where Polgar would be if she played full time.

It’s shameful that Kosteniuk completely disrespected Judit Polgar by calling herself a chess queen and copyrighting this name for winning a silly knockout event while Polgar is rated more than 150 points higher than Kosteniuk for the past 20 yearts. Her management has no shame in promoting nonsense and making her look very bad. Kosteniuk isn’t even in the top 10 and she doesn’t deserve to be mentioned in the same breath.
I don’t think you should blame Kosteniuk. The person to blame is her manager. They did all those lame and stupid things, not her. Take it easy on her. I like her.
Always this bashing of the WC every time Susan brings up an aticle about women chess..so disrespectfull.
What do other female players do for chess ?
Almost nothinhg …
There should be more Kosteniuks..!!!
And what has Kosteniuk done other than self promoting and exaggerating her chess resume by publishing a book about her becoming a GM at 14 when she didn’t? She was no where near GM level at 14. That’s a lie. The USCF supported her more than any other American player and she spat on them by supporting Ilyumzhinov because she got better favors from RCF.
Judit Polgar is the best female player by quite a margin! I like Kosteniuk, but chess queen she’s not! That’s Judit Polgar!
