I recently reported about 2 Polgar Girls from Virginia: Abby Marshall and Ettie Nikolova. They were leading the Virginia State Closed Championship at the half way point and drew each other in round 4 on board 1.
Abby and Ettie ended up tying for second place in the overall state championship. Abby took second on tiebreaks and Ettie took third, ahead of other strong masters.

Congratulations to both Abby and Ettie as well as the champion Andrew Samuelson!
This is very impressive! Two female players rated below 2000 doing so well. Neither will be below 2000 for long…
Very nice job by the 2 ladies!
Ettie,
we are happy for you!
Eve and Ilya Zhurbinskiy
Wow, they beat and finished ahead of players rated 300-400 points higher than they. That is really impressive! CL had better give this some coverage — the girls desrve it. 🙂
In fact, Jennifer Shahade does cover it in her blog at CL Online. 🙂
Congrats Abby and Ettie!
Amazing! They both have performed at Master Level. Abby especially at 2300 level. I think Susan will have two girls going into her level 2 and 1 sooner than she expected.
Not to mention congratulations to the guy who actually won the championship, Mr. Andy Samuelson 🙂
i lived in virginia last year and Andrew is one of the only players i lost to. he is a nice guy and a good friend of mine and this line is to congratulate not only him but Susan for creating a successful program that has inhibited the progress of these two young ladies
