I am sure she distracted him. Probably with these weird gloves. Also, was 17… b5 really necessary?! Sure it prevents white’s knight hopping to c4 (and threatening b6, d6), however, the hole on c6 is just terrible. Do not have a computer (other than this one at work) but 17… Rc8 instead looked much healthier. Anyway, this way it remains exciting in Group B.

This round was full of surprises. Carlsen, Giri, Robson, Nakamura all lost their games! Who would expect that…
It is possible that she “vamped” the poor boy. Batted those eyelashes or just smiled sweetly at him, with a stupifying result.
What is certain is that she played better. Allowing her rook to penetrate was a strange mistake.
Given his great results so far, he might understandably have gotten sort of overconfident, or just had an off day.
Forget that Muzychuk is a girl. It’s incredible that Giri was stopped by a 2523 IM, after handling much higher-rated players with relative ease.
