Armenian chess players leave for Istanbul to win

YEREVAN, AUGUST 17, ARMENPRESS: Armenian chess Olympic team leaves for Istanbul with high mood. Such opinion expressed member of chess Olympic team Gabriel Sargsyan during the talk with Armenpress.

The grandmaster stressed that the team already for many years performs in different international tournaments but chess Olympiad in Istanbul is special.

“Though the main part of our team are young men but we are experienced. For me the favorite is Russia. I would also mention Ukraine and China” said two times Olympic champion.

World Chess Olympiad this year will take place in Istanbul from August 27 to September 10. In this tournament Armenia will be represented by Levon Aronyan (2825), Sergey Movsisyan (2698), Gabriel Sargsyan (2679) and Tigran Petrosyan (2657). 163 countries have applied for participation in Olympiad.

Armenian chess team has won Olympiad in Turin (2006) and in Dresden (2008).
