NOBLE Park Chess Club is calling out to kings, bishops and pawns to participate in its upcoming chess tournament.

The club is holding its fourth round-the-clock tournament on Saturday, January 30 at the Paddy O’Donoghue Centre.

Secretary Dom Dragicevic said the club presently had 32 members ranging in age, nationality and playing strength. “We are one of the strongest chess clubs in Victoria, some of our players have made it to Victorian and world championships,” he said.

The club was started in 2006 and hosted the Dandenong International Chess Festival that year.

The club has sported junior champion players, Bobby Cheng and James Morris, and will start its first term this Saturday, January 23.

“We are very proud of our members’ achievements and we hope to grow even further in 2010,” Mr Dragicevic said.

Play starts at 2pm every Saturday at the Paddy O’Donoghue Centre, Buckley Street in Noble Park.

Details: Dom Dragicevic after 8pm on 0421 896 365.
