Air Warfare Systems Operator 3rd Class Brian McGarrigle and Aviation Electronics Technician 3rd Class Jonathan Cronkhite, both assigned to the Battle Cats of Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron (Light) (HSL) 43, Detachment 4, based in San Diego, play chess inside the hangar bay of the guided-missile frigate USS Ford (FFG 54). Ford is deployed with Southern Seas 2009, part of the U.S. Southern Command-led Partnership of the Americas mission focusing on strengthening relationship in the Southern Command area of Focus.
