Celebrating a lesser-known tea party

A Maryland festival celebrates the 1774 Chestertown Tea Party, in which colonists dumped tea in response to the British Parliament’s closing of the port of Boston.

Benjamin Franklin, played by Lain Hawkridge, plays chess with children at the festival. Franklin was an avid chess player who wrote on the subject and used the game as a diplomatic tool in London.
