American Optimism at New Low, Poll Finds

WASHINGTON (May 20) – It is gloomy out there. Men and women, whites and minorities – all are feeling a war-weary pessimism about the United States seldom shared by so many people.
Only 25 percent of those surveyed say things in the U.S. are going in the right direction, according to an AP-Ipsos poll this month. That is about the lowest level of satisfaction detected since the survey started in December 2003.
Here is the full article.
Do you agree with the poll? What can be done to reverse this trend? Is there a solution or things will just work out themselves?
We need strong leadership, just like for the uscf.
The tone of these kinds of articles are the cause of the pessimism.
In other words, the article itself is pessimistic.
Yes, it’s mostly a case of everyone hearing that everyone is depressed or pessimistic, so they think they should be as well. The economy is humming along quite nicely, crime rates nationwide are down, education has improved, drug use and teen pregnancy are down. The war is well.. far away. Basically people should buck up.
The U.S. government is possibly in Iraq for some good reasons. The 1st Iraq war started Sept.11,1990. The month and the day are the same as the attack in N.Y. city a few years a go, 9/11, although the year is different.
end the war in iraq and the ‘war on terror’ and start to fight for good and justice again. that would make americans safer and happier and would make the rest of the world think of america as something great.
God bless you all
the press only likes to cover negative stories.
with the competition for news, they need to do even more.
look at the stock market, increased earnings, increased longevity, better health care options (expensive, but 10 years ago, you didn’t have those options) and you should realize that pessimism is not at all warrented…especially compared to 30 years ago!
End all wars.
End the wars on Iraq and Terror. they represent the wars on other people.
End the war on Drugs. This represents the war against our own people.
All wars must fail. They are extreme methods to force control over other people. This can never work. It is impossible to take away the freedom of another person.
We must change ourself and stop trying to change other people. All wars are attempts to change other people.
In the history of man there has never been a war that has been truely successful.
Our government feeds us the the line that the people of Iraq will love us for bombing killing and maiming their innocent civilians and then stealing their oil. And we as a nation believe that lie.
What fools we all are.
Bye bye Bush would be a brilliant move.
I hope you are correct anon.
You write that:
“In the history of man there has never been a war that has been truely successful.
All wars must fail. They are extreme methods to force control over other people. This can never work. “
I just wish that the terrorists war against civillization would fail sooner rather than later.
Good points on the economy above. Amazing how the press has ignored the past 5 years of an excellent domestic economy. They forget that their audience is supposed to Americans and not al-qaedans.
Your picture is out of date.
