Peru to compete at World Chess Olympiad in Russia

Lima, Sep. 17 (ANDINA). The Peruvian men’s and women’s chess teams will leave for Russia on Friday night to participate in the 39th World Chess Olympiad scheduled to be played at Khanty-Mansiysk, a centre of sporting activity in Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug.

The national delegation, captained by Grandmaster Georgui Castañeda, consists of nine experienced players.

The men’s team includes Julio Granda, Emilio Cordova, Jorge Cori, Marco Pacheco and Efrain Palacios.

The women’s squad is made up of Deysi Cori, Ann Chumpitaz, Ingrid Aliaga and Ximena Orbezo.

A total of 1376 chess players from 158 countries will participate in this year’s event which runs from September 18 to October 4.
