Every time I played chess I thought about Peru, Deysi Cori says
Lima, Aug. 19 (ANDINA). Peru’s world youth chess champion Deysi Cori said Friday upon her arrival to Jorge Chavez international airport that whenever she played in the tournament held in Chennai, India, she thought about Peru and, at the same time, pledged to win the champion title in her category next year.
“Every time I played I though about Peru; because when I play, my country plays. I feel really proud to be a Peruvian. Now, my objective is to train for next year because my main goal is to become the world supreme champion,” stated Cori.
Then the 18-year-old Woman Grandmaster was lifted on shoulders by her relatives and expressed her gratitude to all Limean fans by thanking them for keeping track of her achievement.
“I sincerely thank you all for such welcome, I didn’t expect it. I love my Peru, my family, each and every one of you for being here.”
The teenage chess prodigy added she feels very happy as she will meet Peruvian President Ollanta Humala, who will honor the her with the Medal of Honor for Sports Merit.
Cori also stressed that she hopes Peruvian chess receives more financial support in order to prevent young players of this sport, and athletes in general, from getting involved in violence and gangs.
