1.Re8+
>A-1….Rxe8.2.Qxd5 nets Q for R
>B-1….Kg7.2.Qxe5.Rxd5.3.Rxa8 nets a full R
Harry
Re8 +…
Re8+ will win a rook for white after the queen exchange
1.Re8+ and 2.Qxd5 wins.
The same as the June 10 problem, but with a quicker win I think.
1. Re8+ Rxe8 (alternative below)
2. Qxd5 Rf8 (must protect f7)
3. Rxf7! (fine detail) Rxf7
4. Qxa8
It’s Q vs R and the a pawn has no play, so without counter play black resigns here.
1. Re8+ Kg7 (no better)
2. Qxd5 Rxd5
Enforced because of Rxe8? Qxf7+ Kh6/Kh8 Qg7#.
3. Rxa8
and in this 2R vs. 1R endgame again the a pawn must be lost and black resigns.
Boringgggggggggggggggggg 1. Re8+ wins a rook or queen.
I think Susan wants us to become experts on this theme.
1.Re8+ Kg7 or h7
2.QxQ RxQ
3.RxR
It would not have worked if white had pawn at h2 instead of h4.
