Patil emerges sole leader

Sirish Patil (Mah) emerged sole leader with 3.5 points after the completion of the 4th round of the 10th AICFB National A Chess Championship for the blind, being held here at the Ganapat Rao Vartak Krida Bhavan, Vasai. This 13-round elite championship for the blind, sponsored and organized by Young Star Trust, Virar and Vasai Taluka Kala Krida Mandal, will select the top four to represent India in the World Chess Championship for the Blind scheduled to be held in Greece in the month of May.
Playing on top board Sirish Patil (MAH) with white played the King’s pawn opening. His opponent Shidad M (KER) opted for Modern defense and played rather passively. Shidad traded his good bishop for a knight worsening his position more and the experienced Sirish played energetically to force resignation in move 22.
On the 2nd board, Prachurya Kumar Pradhan (ORI). While exchanging queens on the 17th captured with a pawn instead of his knight and the budding talent Darpan played flawless chess to win the game in 24 moves.
On the 3rd board, Madan Bagayatkar (MAH) with white opened with his king pawn againstSachin Lahu Wagmare (MAH). On move 17 Madan committed the mistake by moving his pawn to f3 square allowing Sachin a strong attack, but Sachin blundered in the end game and eventually lost game.
The game between Kishan Ganolli (KAR) and Krishna Udupa (KAR), was a schmid Benoni opening which led to a complicated middle game position. But on the 24th were exchanged and when there was no more possibility of any win, both agreed to split point.
On the 5th board Soundarya Kumar Pradhan (ORI) played Queen’s pawn opening againstAshvin Makwana (GUJ). In an equal position the youngest player Soundarya blundered his rook on the 25th move and resigned the game.
Vilesh B. Bhatt (Mah) with white played King’s pawn opening against Swapnil Shah (Mah). Vilesh played safe not allowing his experienced opponent any breakthrough and the game was agreed drawn after a long grueling duel lasting 52 moves.
