MANILA – Grandmaster (GM) Mark Paragua will try to extend his winning streak when he begins his campaign in the 2009 Asian Indoor Games chess competition on Friday in Hanoi, Vietnam.
“I hope I can perform well in the Asian Indoor Games chess competition,” said Paragua after paying a courtesy call to Manila Sports Council chairman Niño dela Cruz at the Manila City hall last Wednesday.
The 25-year-old wood pusher is coming off a successful run in the inaugural Governor Amado Espino Open Chess Cup last week in Lingayen, Pangasinan where he posted 6 wins and a draw.
Joining Paragua in the country’s campaign in Asian Indoor Games are World Chess Cup bound GM Rogelio “Joey” Antonio, Jr, (Men’s competition) and Woman Fide Masters Catherine Perena and Sherily Cua (Women’s competitions).
The delegation chief is Wilfredo “Willie” Abalos, executive director of the National Chess Federation of the Philippines under the leadership of its president Prospero Pichay Jr. and Secretary-General Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino Jr.
The RP chess team was scheduled to fly to Vietnam Thursday morning.
The Asian Indoor Games will run from October 30 up to November 8. Marlon Bernardino

Wow Vietnam! chess being played on high level errwhere Susan ,but no top guys of African descent around, whuzz up wit dat? Maybe i should log back in at icc and ask their top guys about it, they good at running and hiding behind low accounts, you know cuz of their ego! hahaha you really gotta watch them closely Susan ! hehehe.
Why no Philippine junior players in the World Junior Chess Championship in Argentina??
Because NCFP has no money to send juniors to World Jr. Chess Championship. No money to pay FIDE arrears also!
