Pandemonium

There was real pandemonium today at the Engineering Building of the Tretyakov Gallery, as enormous queues of people waited at the entrance and there were not enough seats in the playing hall and Chess Corner. Many people came with their families and brought children. This influx of chess fans can be easily explained: it was Saturday. However, the weekend is not the only reason for the growing interest in the world championship match currently underway. The chess players are neck and neck, and the score after the eleventh game is even: having each dealt the other one defeat, the players have focused and are playing a steady game.

The famous Soviet and Russian football player and coach Anatoly Byshovets attended the match for the second time in a row and watched attentively until the very end. Today’s match was also attended by several renowned chess players: Levon Aronian, who is currently second in the FIDE rating, European champion Dmitry Jakovenko, coach of the Russian men’s team Yuri Dokhoyan, grandmasters Evgeny Tomashevsky, Alexander Morozevich, Evgeny Bareev, Pavel Eljanov and Alexander Huzman, Honoured Coach of the USSR Mark Dvoretsky and others.
