Who says that kids only play video games these days? Not the parents of 36 boys & girls who attended the Beginners Chess class held on Saturday the 12th. The organizers expected around 20 children, and so the 36 the came had them scrambling for chairs, tables and chess sets.

Many of the boys were from the local Cub Scout Packs and a few of the girls had on their uniform sashes, showing their pride in their groups. The class was taught by chess aficionado Glenn Davison. Glenn kept the children’s attention with stories about famous chess players like Kasparov and the fact that chess is the single most played game in the entire world. Not surprisingly, and proving this fact, is that there are over 6000 chess sets on Ebay every day.

Boys from all three Cub Scout Packs attended the event. Pack 21, 20 and 252 were all represented. Each of the Packs is centered in one of our area schools, such as Pack 20 at Nottingham West, Pack 21 at Hills Garrison and Pack 252 at St. Kathryn’s church. If you want your son to learn chess, make kites, or do any of the fun & exciting things that Cub Scouts do, go to www.beascout.scouting.org and if you are interested in Girl Scouts please go to www.girlscoutsgwm.org

Please keep your eyes open for other events sponsored by the Hudson Cub Scouts.
