Open scholastic chess tournament details

Students will play opponents based on grade level: K-2, 3-4, 5-6 and 7-8. No one will be eliminated.

* What: A five-round, unrated chess tournament open to all chess players, grades K-8. Children will compete as individuals, playing five rounds or less depending on attendance.

* Where: Charyl Stockwell Academy, 9758 E. M-59, Hartland Township

* Check-in: Runs from 10:15-10:45 a.m. Nov. 8. Only children who have checked in by 10:45 a.m. will be paired for the first round. Late arrivals will forfeit their game and will be paired in subsequent rounds.

* Rules: Touch chess — any piece touched must be moved, unless it constitutes an illegal move.

* Time control: Each round lasts 30 minutes. Games not finished will be judged by tournament director.

* Awards: Trophies awarded to top three in each section. Medals will be given to all participants who do not receive trophies.

* Registration: Entry fee is $20 per student. Sign-up is required. Make checks payable to Charyl Stockwell Academy and drop them off at the school before Oct. 31.
