1.Nf4 – N8d7; 2.N5xg6 – fxg6; 3.Bxg6 – hxg6; 4.Nxg6 – Kg7; 5.Qh6+ Kg8; 6.Qh8+ Kf7; 7.Ne5#
1. Nxf7 Kxf7 2. Bxf6 Bxf6 3. Qxh7ch and the P/n6 falls
This is one of those positions where the sacrifice at f7 is obvious and has to be declined. One can calculate but there are numerous variations.
The main line could run:
1 Nxf7 Kxf7 (accepting the sac)
2 Bxf6 Bxf6 (to allow 3 Qxh7+)
3 Qxh7+ Kf8 (will transpose to the B intercepting at Bg7)
4 Nf4 (the key move) …Bg7
5 Bxg6 (Be4 is an interesting alternative but this seems more forcing and changes the B diagonal to h5 e8) … Re7
6 Bh5 (!) Re8
7 Ng6+ Kf7
8 Ne5+ Kf8
9 Rd4! (the more difficult key move which could not necessarily be caluclated on move 1) Qg5
10 Ng6+ (the g6 square is key to the whole variation) Kf7
11 Rf4+ Qxf4
12 Nxf4+ wins.
Declining the f7N sac is possible for black but the consequent exchanges benefit White. 1 Nxf7 Qc7
2 Bxf6 Bxf63 Qxf6 Qxf7 4 Q*f7
K*f7 5. Nf4± so possibly 1 Nxf7 Qc7 2 Nh6+ Kg7 3 Nf4 Qe5 but the attack is slowed e.g. 4 b3 Nbd7 ±; finally keep in reserve the exchanges or check: 1. Nxf7 Qc7 2.Nf4! (Kxf7 transposes to line 1).
2. … Qb7 (what else?) 3. Bb5 Rf8 4.Nh6+ is strong e.g. 4:…Kg7 (4…Kh8 is better but 5.Ng4 is strong?) 5. Rxd5 exd5 6. Ne6+ Kh8 8Bxf6+ wins.

1 N x F7 is the key
If 1..K x F7, 2 B x F6, B x F6
3 Q x H7+, either B-G7 or K-F8
4 B x G6 wins Rook
1. Nxf7 is always a good start. If 1…Kxf7 then 2. Bxf6 and 3. Qxh7+ and white breaks through.
Hi Susan Polgar,
Well, one of the best possible combination had already given by an “Anonymous” – so nothing to add further.
By the by – no more posting from me at this page – if I have to just say that “nothing to add further”.
That may keep this page neat and clear with just the set of chess puzzle moves or its relevant comments.
