NM Chris Mabe of Charlotte is the new North Carolina chess champion. Mabe finished with a 4.0/5.0 result in the Open Section at the N.C. Open, Nov. 2-4, in Greensboro to claim the title.
Mabe tied with NM Rusty Potter of Virginia at the tournament, but topped the Virginia master in the final round to share first place. Both players won $505.
Mabe is no stranger to coming through in big tournaments. This summer, he won the Under 2200 Section at the World Open.

Go Tarheels!
Way to go Chris!
Are you realted to Tom Mabe? He was an expert level player during the 70s who played in central Illinois. I remember one game where he made a move simply to create a position where six minor pieces where all connected on the e-file with no intervening pawns.
CONGRATULATIONS CHRIS !!!!! THE DEDICATION AND HARD WORK HAS PAYED OFF. WE ARE EXTREMELY PROUD OF YOU. WAY TO GO CHAMP!!!!!
