White to move. Black played 43…Rxe4 and offered a draw. Black is a Grandmaster and White is a National Master. White for some reasons accepted it. If White would have played 44.Rbe1, Black’s position does look quite bad. Do you agree? Would you have taken a draw here as White just because your opponent is a GM?

unless you are a beginner or under severe time pressure or need to take too many bathroom breaks and welcome the chance to avoid embarrassment there is no need to take a draw in this position simply because the opponent is a GM.
It’s almost insulting of the GM to offer a draw in this position to an IM. This is not a circumstance where it is easy to make mistakes.
Rb1e1 makes things very difficult for black in several ways. Too much to defend and no way to do it all (or even part) in a single move. Both the e5 pawn and the f3 pawnare at risk. Not that the f3 pawn is so valuable but it means white’s bishop gest out of the corner. Too many hanging pawns and stuff to defend against.

As a matter of principal I would always accept a draw from a Grand Master. You never know what they will do next or what trick they have up their sleeve. This goes double for Super GMs like Kramnik and Kasparov. If Kasparov offered a draw I would take it – even before the match started. Kasparov could have “perpetual nothing” and I would take it. Take pride in surviving, is what I say, and be rejoice you were not blown off the face of the board!
If I were a National Master and a Grandmaster offered me a draw, I would first look long and hard at what possibilities my position contained before doing anything. The only reason I could think of to be offered a draw by a GM is that s/he sees something nasty that I can do. If I find it, I’d play it. If not, I’d take the draw.

this Qb6 protects my rook from Qxb1+. it then allows for the Rc1 with the contiuation Rc7 attacking the rook in front of the king. im just thinking of ways to shake things up and finish off this player. fischer said you have to take chances if you want to win. i try and keep his concepts in mind. im not completly sure if it’ll work but its worth a shot.

While 44.Rxe4 may be better than 44.Rbe1 the analysis is awful. Let me fill in Black’s move under “any”; Qxd5. If White insists on Rc7 there are not enough checks and Black is winning.
After 44.Rbe1 Rff4 Black will be a pawn down but has Q+N vs. Q+B and an initiative which likely is shy of full compensation. If White was in any time trouble he should accept the draw against a stronger player. The position is very complicated and White may be better but the continuations are not clear.
I see no easy way to dislodge the Nd6 so the extra pawn is less valuable, and the bishop is less active than the knight. Hard to call really, but Black has some compensation.

this would have been better. to say this is awful is a huge stretch. who do you think you are making assertions that are compltly bullshit. it might not have been the best continuation but awful thats a outrageous overstatement. awful is kramniks hanging his queen against deep fritz or topalovs f5 move. ill admit i should have moved my rook to e1 before moving my queen to c7 and probaly should have spent more time thiking about the position since it is fairly complicated. losing the d5 pawn wouldnt decide the game as you think it would. it would have merly given black a slight advantage.

No draw. I want a win, though I’ll likely lose. I would at least simplify down further, because I can see that only good things are likely to happen for the next 4-5 (7-8?) moves. I would re-evaluate at that point. Only if I absolutely could not see a way to make further improvements then, I would offer/take a draw.
I play chess for the fun and the challenge. There is nothing like taking on a player rated 600 points higher and winning. I’ve done it more than once in blitz. If I have an edge in a regular game, why not try there too?
Besides, anyone rated 400-600 points higher than you that is offering a draw almost certainly thinks he’s lost or cannot possibly do better than a draw. In that case, let me find the win.
In short, I would be thrilled with a draw, but quite disappointed in myself if I let my opponent’s rating scare me out of a win.
As for taking a draw against Kasparov without making a move, where is the fun or challenge of that? BORING. I’d rather try to make him come up with a brilliancy to beat me. It would be far more entertaining to be demolished by the best than to take a meaningless draw.
Of course, if the draw assures me a tie for first in the Open section of the World Open and a loss puts me well back in the pack, I’ll give Gata the draw….
Conversely, if only a win will put me on the podium, Gata will have to prove (again, as our respective ratings are indisputable proof already) his superiority.
It depends about the Position.Usually i am happy to accept draw from a GM.G.M are stronger respect myself but i think they’re not Gods.I Don’t have idols,and i havn’t fear about GM’S only i bring for them great Respect.Only with Polgar Sisters i could be under psicological soggetion.Because they are the Love of my Childhood.And i was feel in love for them.Today i consider the Polgars as my Sisters,but i don’t think they’re as God,and if i have occasion i Play without fear.
