After reaching a milestone by becoming the youngest International Grand Master in history, Jorge Cori aims to become one of the greatest exponents of chess.
“My next goal is to have a place among the top 20 in the world, and I will strive to achieve it. I would like to be someday like a Karpov or Kasparov,”he said to Peru.21.
The young chess player said that with the help from private enterprise and from his parents he was able to prepare outside Peru, participating in tournaments in Spain, France and Iceland.
He believes that without this support could not have accomplished this success.
“I hope this success I have achieved may sensitize Peruvian authorities, because we have many talents that end up being wasted due to lack of support,” he added.

He’s the youngest GM in the history of chess? Get a writer who can check sources. That lady is no journalist.
Maybe FIDE can first confirm if he has really met all requirements to become a GM, before we post any more articles on this kid. I’m sure we’re all excited to hear of young achievers, but it’s hard to react positively if the claim is questionable.
Did he really say his “next goal” is the top 20 in the world? Get your feet on the ground, kid. Your 2445 rating is probably ranked 1,000th right now and your “next goal” is the top 20?
Why wasn’t he at the Pan American juniors with Ray Robson in the first place? We could have seen how good he really is.
Well, this “journalist” really sucks.
Do you think Kasparov didn’t dream of “becoming the next Alekhine” when he was 14?
Journalist is an amateur, however, this kid has solid chess. Producing GM level of chess at 14 is an achievement worthy of celebration.
Susan’s blog is one place where young talents from smaller countries are getting some exposure. Keep it up, inspite of the quality issue.
