The local International Master Moulthun Ly is a surprising winner of Sydney International Chess Open 2014. He takes clear first place with 7/9 points, leaving the former European champion GM Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu, as well as many other GMs half a point behind.

The winner is awarded 4000 $ and a GM norm for his performance of 2623 ELO. IM Moulthun Ly adds full 21 points to his ELO rating.

The second place is shared in a 5-way tie by GM Nisipeanu Liviu-Dieter,GM Levente Vajda, FM Junta Ikeda, GM Van Wely Loek and Ke Mu with 6.5/9 points each.
