Members of the Webster University – SPICE chess team, the #1 ranked division I college team in the U.S., once again dominated another major tournament. This time, it is the very strong Thanksgiving Open in St. Louis (held at the St. Louis Chess Club), an event with 8 GMs, 9 IMs, and many other titled players.

Three players from Webster University, Grandmasters Georg Meier, Fidel Corrales Jimenez, and Denes Boros tied for 1st with the score of 5-1. Grandmaster Wesley So (Philippines) finished 4th, 1/2 point behind the leader.

Tom Polgar finished in a tie for the top amateur under 2200 prize with Iskandar Aripov (Uzbekistan) of Webster Groves High School (who trains every week with the Webster University chess team).
