White King is weak. There’s no way to stop Qe3+.
1. Rf8+, Kb7 (Ka7?) 2. Rb8+!, Kxb8 (Ka7?) 3. Nc6+
Easy one before breakfast. 🙂
1. Rf8+ Kb7 (if 1…Ka7 2.Nc6+ wins the queen)
2. Rb8+ Kxb8 (if 2…Ka7 3.Nc6 Ka6 4.Nxe5)
3. Nc6+ wins the queen.
Essentially black can’t stop white from sacrificing the rook and winning the queen.
As usual, white has to give a few checks: 1.Rf8+ Kb7 2.Rb8+ Kb8: 3.Nc6+ and then 4.Ne5: stops Qe3+
1 Rf8+ Kb7
2 Rb8+ Kxb8
3 Nc6+ and
4 Nxe5
What about sacrificing the rook and forking the queen ? 🙂
Rf8+ will save the game..
If ..Ka7 then Nc6 wins the queen.
If ..Kb7 then Rb8+ ..Kxb8 and Nc6 follows..
White wins Queebn and Game by Rf8+!, Rb8+ and Nc6 forking King and Queen.
Rf8+ and Rb8+ lead to an unavoidable fork that leaves white one piece up.
1. Rf8+ Kb7 (if 1…Ka7 then 2. Nc6+ forking) 2. Rb8+! Kxb8 (if 2…Ka7 then 3. Nc6+ forking) 3. Nc6+ winning the queen and the game.
Rf8+ will save the game!
If
1)..Ka7 then Nc6 wins the Queen
and if
1).. Kb7 2) Kxb8 then Nc6 follows
What about this one?
1) Rf8+, Kb7;
2) Rb8+, Kxb8;
3) Nc6+, and black lose the Queen.
Ciao
Luigi
Rf8+ and Rb8+ wins the queen with a family check by the knight
Rf8+ and Rb8+ wins the queen with a family check by the knight
1. Rf8+ Kb7
2. Rb8+ Kxb8
3. Nc6+ Kb7
4. Nxe5
The Rook as to put the Black King in a place where the Night can make a fork on the King and Queen!…
@Anonymous
You’re right, one might as well give up…but before I give up, I am going to give a check, just to spite.
1. Rf8+ and black probably moves his king to b7 because if he goes to a7 I fork his king and queen with Nc6+. So 1…Kb7
Hmm…might as well give another spite check. 2. Rb8+ and black probably takes my rook. Hmm…let’s try another check. Nc6+. Hey! I’m winning. Good thing I didn’t give up when you suggested it.
Rf8 then Rb8.
1.Rf8+ Kb7 2.Rb8+ Kxb8 3.Nc6+
Any other king move on move 1 or 2 and Nc6+ wins.
Rf8+ Kb7
Rb8+! Kxb8
Nc6+ winning the queen
1. Rf8+ Kb7 2. Rf8+ Kxb8 (Ka7) 3. Nc6+ forking King and Queen.
1. Rf8+ Kb7 2. Rb8+ Kxb8 (Ka7) 3. Nc6+ forking King and Queen.
1.Rf8+ Kb7 2.Rb8+ Kxb8 3.Nc6+ wins the queen.
This is an easy one. Begin by checking with the rook, then keep checking until it’s possible to fork the queen and king.
1. Rf8 Kb7
2. Rb8
and 3 NC6 wins the queen
It appears that there is nothing more to add.
I always save games with Cmd+S. 🙂
I think there’s no hope. White is obviously a very weak player, so even if black gives an opportunity for a knight fork, he won’t see it.
To those who think that this is a white win, think again. After Rb8+, black plays Ka7. Then Ra8+, Kb7. This is a perpetual; hence, a draw. That’s why the puzzle said “How does white save the game,” not win the game.
Not perpetual.
After ..Ka7 Nc6!
As mentioned a few times already.
