After yesterday’s “Real game chess tactic” (Kuzmin/Maksimenko), I spent time chasing 1. Rxf7, but after 1. … Rxf7 2. Re8 Rf8, White runs out of ammo. (3. Re7 Qxe7 4. Bxe7 Rxf2 and Black has a strong advantage (5. c3 Rf7 to exchange bishops doesn’t help much); 3. Be7 Bxf2 4. Kf1 Rxe8 5. Bxd6 Be3 and White is through.)
Instead, 1. Qxf8+ Kxf8 2. Bh6+ Kg8 3. Re8+ Qf8 4. Rxf8# is pretty clear.
Ops ! It’s better 1 Q:f8+ !
