  The best move is 1.Nc5+ Kb6 2. Nd7+ Kxc6 3. Ne5+ Kc7 4. g4 and the black rook is trapped.

  How about just winning the rook with c7? After Kb7 then Nc5 followed by a fork on e6.

  3. … Kxc7 is met by 4. Ne6+

  3. … Any Black Rook move, is met by the capture of the rook.

  3. … The Black pawn can’t move.

  This is an interesting problem – I see 1. c7!! (Forcing the King to catch the Pawn! as Rook can’t afford it) Kb7 (Forced)

  2. Nc5+!! a big sacrifice as a bait for the Rook. Well but isn’t the real intent. This is a decoy for the King to be forced to c8.
  2…Kc8.

  Now play the 3. g4 that you boast of trapping the Rook. It is not just the trap! Black camp is in real Zugwang! forcing to it to leave the whole show with either Rxd5 or Kxc7 to simplify the battle to Won game for White.

  Of cource 1. Nc5+ before c7, fails to the knight being taken in move 2:
  1. Nc5+ Kb6
  2. c7?? Rxc5 black wins.

  So therefore, c7 must be played first, forcing black king to b7 and so getting the mentioned zugzwang:

  1. c7 Kb7
  2. Nc5+ Kc8
  3. g4 Rxc5+ (enforced since Kxc7 fails to knight fork)
  4. Kxc5 Kxc7
  Etc.

  R+2p vs. R+1p. endgame
