to take lead at the Capablanca Memorial 2009. Savchenko managed to defeat the local player Lazaro Bruzon in an English opening (40 moves), while in the same setup Georg Meier was quicker against Artyom Timofeev (27 moves).

The top seeded GM Leinier Dominguez divided the point with Igor Khekin. The game was a 53 moves closed Ruy Lopez, in which Dominguez sought the victory, but the German player was stable in defence. At a certain point Dominguez could make a break on the queenside, but chose imprecise move order and Khekin could go away with more than a draw.

GM Neuris Delgado won an important game in the Premier group against the top seeded GM Fidel Corrales. Delgado had the black pieces and in defeated his opponent in a 49 move Sicilian to take the lead with 1,5/2 after all games finished draw yesterday (scroll down for full results). This leaves Corrales at the last spot, with 0 points, but with a game less.
