On January 20, the meeting between the Chairman of the Government of Russia Vladimir Putin and the Head of Kalmykia Kirsan Ilyumzhinov was held in the House of Government of Russian Federation. During the meeting Kirsan Ilyumzhinov informed the Chairman of the Government of Russia on the socio-economic and socio-political situation in the Republic of Kalmykia, on the implementation of priority national projects and the most relevant national programs in the field of economics and social policy.

“Despite the crisis of 2009 the Republic has demonstrated positive growth in the industrial production and housing construction, and improvement in the labor market. There are still a lot of problems, but it is encouraging that the dynamics is positive”, said Vladimir Putin.
Kirsan Ilyumzhinov stressed that the growth of investment in fixed capital amounted 115%, and it is observed 2-percent growth in gross regional product compared with last year. In addition, the Head of the Republic noted the absence of wage arrears.

Particular attention was paid to energy development in the Republic of Kalmykia during the meeting. Kirsan Ilyumzhinov told in detail about the construction of wind power stations in the republic – an investment project of the Czech company Falcon Capital – and interaction with the Government of Russia on this issue in the network of the program for the development of alternative energy in Russia. “We used to buy electricity, and that’s why the enterprises had high charge in purchasing the electricity, which increases production costs. The construction of the first gas turbine power station is finishing and we are starting to implement an ambitious plan to build 3 thousand wind power plants with the help of German companies”, said the Head of Republic of Kalmykia.

The development of agriculture was also discussed during the meeting. Kirsan Ilyumzhinov noted that currently 76% of beef cattle are concentrated in the Republic of Kalmykia. The Head of the Republic said that the program for the development of cattle breeding in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture is successfully implemented.

Informing the Chairman of Russian Government on the implementation of programs in the field of social policy, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov told about the course of construction of the Republican Diagnostic Center in Elista. As Vladimir Putin said he will instruct the Ministry of Health and Social Development to provide the Diagnostic Center with the modern equipment. In the end of the meeting Vladimir Putin told about his intention to come to the republic on a working visit this year.
