Nice win by McShane. You rarely see Carlsen beaten that badly.
The Force is strong in this one.
I though Carlsen would’ve won this game, but that said McShane is a very good player so it’s not a total shock. The fact McShane made it look easy was very impressive! Well done to him.
Wow! That’s what I call a blow on the chin! Blown away.
It doesn’t seem fair to have a high level tournament
where some player have 4 whites and 3 blacks and other have 3 whites and 4 blacks.
It should be a double round robin or have a single round robin with an odd number of players and every one gets a day off.
In some way, I liked McShane’s win. There are many good players around the world.
The event is played in London. McShane is the up-and-coming star from England. Much money is being put up by sponsors for the event. Organizers must get media attention. The only question was how much Carlsen was paid to lose in his first game against the English player?
And Mangus has dropped to #3 in the live ratings.

Are you trying to imply that Magnus took money to lose against McShane?
Do you think Magnus has no ethics? And more than anything he doesn’t need to make money that way. Just by playing naturally he can make money! Why would he resort to fixing results?
And this kind of things will come out one or the other day, so no sane person will ever agree to lose a game to receive money. Certainly not Magnus!
It was just an off day for Magnus and a good day for McShane. That is it.
You must have forgotten that losing is also part of the game of Chess!
Will McShane let this victory go to his head and begin his modeling career?
McShane has been playing extremely well in the last 3 months especially. I have been impressed so I was not at all surprised the way he smashed Carlsen. Magnus needs to wake up and face reality, he is not dominant player in the world like Kasparov, Karpov, Fischer, Alekhine, Capablanca, Lasker and Morphy did. I hope after losing this game and the five he lost recently that he gets real and starts working hard to play for World Championship Match against Anand. Kasparov and Karpov won tournaments for 30 years and competed in matches for World Championship too! Something is wrong with Magnus not wanting to compete for the title. Maybe a few more lessons and it may be a wake up call for him. I really hope he changes his attitude and plays for the Crown of Chess. Otherwise he will never join the immortals from Morphy to Anand.
