Things are heating up after the first half. Boris Gulko shows that he can still duke it out against the best of America. Can Boris maintain his lead? Can Gata catch up with him? Will “the Rock” Onischuk break out in the second half?

questions of logistics:
1) Who provides the boards and sets to events like this?
2) What sort of snacks do these events typically provide for you?
3) I see that you are using wood boards and not rolled. Is a wood board considered to be more lush to play on verses rolled?
4) It seems that the room between the edge of the table and the start of the board is just enough for elbows, is this typical?
5) Susan, you seem to normally just place your hands down or in your lap when playing (and not on your face). Why is this … do you think that hands on your face is distracting?
6) Do you say “check” in matches like this? Use some hand sign? Just leave the verbal “check” out of the scheme all together?
questions of logistics:
1) Who provides the boards and sets to events like this?
The Susan Polgar Foundation and sponsors.
2) What sort of snacks do these events typically provide for you?
We provide full lunch, snacks and drinks for the players, arbiter and volunteers.
3) I see that you are using wood boards and not rolled. Is a wood board considered to be more lush to play on verses rolled?
It is not typical to play with plastic sets in prestigious events.
4) It seems that the room between the edge of the table and the start of the board is just enough for elbows, is this typical?
Depends on the tournament. These are special tables provided by the NYAC.

according to fide rules no one needs to say “check” … your questions @thomas_remkus make me think, that you are not very common with chess rules …
1. rule: keep quiet
2. rule: keep polite (don’t try to be sarcastic)
3. rule: win with grace (a feeling i should be very familiar with, if i only had the opportunity)
4. rule: lose with dignity (a feeling i’m very familiar with)
5. rule: not any ellbow may ever touch a board (especially not after a game is finished!)
6. rule: wooden boards are only allowed for class players (risk of injury for non-class ones … imagine what a 120 kg man could do with a solid wooden board … *ups)
7. rule: it is not allowed to have onions, garlic or / and cheddar cheese as a snack.
8. rule: it is not allowed to drink alcohol or to consume nicotine “on board” because alcohol and nicotine are on the doping list (by the way – thats why i stopped playing tournament chess …^^)
9. rule: never ever take a “Vohaul” named blogger seriously!
10. rule (MOST IMPORTANT): don’t talk to or with playing players!
*smirking, Vohaul
I thought it was prohibited to talk to your opponent. I believe it is forbidden in USCF chess to say “check”
It is certainly bad taste to say “Check”
Some people will get very angry with you if you say “Check”
the opponent “knows” he is in check.
