The 50th National Premier Chess Championship was held from 1st to 14th October, 2012, in Kolkata. The Championship was organized by the Dibyendu Barua Chess Academy & Allsport Management, on behalf of All India Chess Federation and under the aegis of West Bengal Chess Adhoc Committee.

The Championship was played under FIDE Laws of Chess and under 13 rounds of Swiss system.
The 16-years old untitled junior G. Akash emerged champion after finishing on 9,0 points, half a point ahead of the chasing pack.

IM Venkatesh M.R. was leading throughout the tournament but the forfeit that he earned in 11th round due to the zero tolerance rule put an end to his ambitions.

Total prize fund was Rs. 5,00,000/-
