Mahmoud al-Shamieh: Fast Chess Champion
Naharnet – Beirut, Lebanon

Lebanese University student Mahmoud al-Shamieh was crowned Lebanon’s champion in fast chess on Sunday, An Nahar daily reported.

The newspaper said that 69 players took part in the competition, which was held at the Beirut Arab University.

Fast chess, also known as rapid chess, is a game in which each side is given less time to make their moves than under the normal tournament time controls of 60–180 minutes (1–3 hours) per player.

An Nahar said al-Shamieh defeated former Lebanese champions Fadi Eid, Ahmed Najjar, Antoine Kassis and current title holder Faisal Khairallah.
