Longview Chess Club up, running

James Windham and Steve Richardson competing at Longview Chess Club.The Longview Chess Club has started meeting weekly on Thursday evenings at 7:00 p.m., said club organizer and tournament director, Steve Richardson. “Any one may attend and participate in chess games at 211 West Tyler Street, Suite B, in downtown Longview. There are no dues.”

“The chess club is a United States Chess Federation (USCF) affiliate and will be holding USCF rated tournaments in Longview in the near future,” added Richardson.

“The primary function of the Longview Chess Club is to operate a USCF Chess-For-Youth program, which is a charitable, non-profit program qualified under IRS Code Section 501(c)(3). The Chess-For Youth program in Longview will establish chess programs in local schools and youth organizations,” said Richardson. Anyone interested in helping with the Chess-For-Youth program may contact the Longview Chess Club at (903) 704-4528.

The Longview Chess Club recently renewed its affiliate membership with the USCF and qualified to conduct tournaments. Steve Richardson, organizer, is a USCF member and a certified tournament director. Richardson is participating in the 2007 United States Class Championship in Houston on October 19, 20, and 21.

The Longview Chess Club has created a web site at http://www.longviewchess.org/ to provide information to chess players and to open up communications and announcements.
