Palo Alto’s Media Center wins four WAVE awards

Video producers from Palo Alto’s Media Center have won four WAVE awards for local achievement in community programming. The awards were given last weekend by the Western Region of the Alliance for Community Media.

An episode of “Chess Diva,” a monthly series on chess strategy produced by Lauren and Barbara Goodkind, was one of the three honorees in the community producers’ division. Also singled out were “If Kids Ruled the World/The Reusable Bag,” produced by Jim Skinner; and “The Water Stalker,” produced by Mark Dreschke.

These are environmental-themed programs that were made for the 2008 Greenlight Film Festival.

The fourth winner came from the awards’ professional producers’ division. Producer Doug Smith and the Media Center’s sports crew were honored for their coverage of a championship football game between Palo Alto and Menlo-Atherton high schools on Nov. 30, 2007.

The Media Center will show the winning programs throughout November; details on channels and times are at
