When asked about the players who did not come to Nalchik, Muzychuk, Hoang Thanh Trang, Kosintseva, and Zhang Jilin replied:
Muzychuk: I think that the strongest players are here, and those who did not come made their choice.
Tatiana Kosintseva: It’s a pity that this happened, I don’t have any explanation to this.
Hoang Thanh Trang: It is a big pity that some players did not arrive… but it did not affect the status of the event. We are here and we play.
Dronavalli: I am sorry for this situation. It is their choice. Those who wanted to play, have arrived. As for those who didn’t want – well, it’s their problem!
Zhang Jilin: Pity that some players did not arrive. But on the other hand all the strongest are participating. And let the strongest of all win!

Spoken like good little robots.
Why?
Everything is well organized and there is no danger at all. They would be foolish to criticise their hosts.
While it is somewhat understandable from Georgians, it was a foolish decision to boycott the event from Krush, Sebag and Zapata.
If there is a war going on between Russia and Georgia, I think that it is a bit disrespectful to respond ‘It’s their problem’ ‘They chose not to come’ ‘They are weak anyway- the stong ones are here’ or whatever,on the players who didn’t come.
This reminds me of the time all the Israelis and those with connectins with Israel couldn’t play in the World Cup. Israeli Gelfand came joint second in the very next cycle showing up that event badly.
That was completely different and you know it. Jewish players were prevented to participate the WCC in Libya by the organizers. Nobody was prevented to participate in Nalchik. It was their own decision not to play.
So your comparison really stinks and you know it.
Kosintseva sounds like her head’s screwed on straight. The others come across as a bunch of self-absorbed, high-maintenance princesses.
anon 1:24:00 you are right they are not prevented- but isn’t Russia currently at war with their country (the Georgians I mean) so it is a bit much expecting them to forget that- their country might be destroyed by Russia. You expect them to come to Russia anyway seriously?
But I take your point Libya was far worse on grounds of effective racism/discrimination not allowibng a sector to come. Did you know Illyumzhinov once tried to get a world cup in Iraq with his friend Saddam Hussein? He never would consider morals.
Still it was their own decision not to go (or maybe they were prevented by their own government and national federation).
Nevertheless it was a POLITICAL decision, it was never a matter of personal safety as they were trying to sell it. they just wanted to ruin this champuonship for all the rest too. Out of spite and politics. If they would say straigth that they are boycotting because of war, then fine, but they didn’t.
Thats why I have no sympathy for them.
they just wanted to ruin this champuonship for all the rest too
Remarkable how you can read the minds of so many women — none of whom you know in person — with such clarity, all at the same time.
That skill must come in very handy in both chess and dating.
If you can’t see through them than this is your problem.
Like i said, they should just clearly say that they are boycotting because of war.
It would be completely different. But instead they lied and deceived others to not go there. Yes, I have no respect and sympathy for such people.
